HTC U11 update rolling out with camera enhancements, June security patch and more

HTC U11 is receiving a new software update which brings along with it a few changes to the smartphone.

Before we delve any further into the nitty-gritties, it’s worth noting that the update comes with regard to the Taiwanese variant of the HTC U11 only.

Now that we have established it, let’s see what the update has in store for the HTC U11 users. Firstly, with the update, users get the June security patch which should improve the overall security of your smartphone upon installation.

The update also brings support for 4CA for select carriers alongside some camera and system enhancements.

The new OTA update weighs in around at 295.17MB and is better to download it when connected to Wi-Fi in order to avoid unnecessary data charges.

Sony starts rolling out Nougat update to Xperia XA and XA Ultra once again

A few days ago we told you that Sony has stopped rolling out the Android Nougat update to its Sony Xperia XA and Xperia XA Ultra handsets owing to some technical glitches.

Well, it looks like the company has fixed those problems. We say this as the company resumed the Nougat roll out today according to a report.

Also, the update for both the smartphones is being pushed with slightly modified build numbers in comparison to the previous roll out.

If you own a Xperia XA handset, you should look for the update with the build 33.3.A.0.131 as opposed to 33.3.A.0.127 (previous version).

The Xperia XA Ultra users, on the other hand, should receive the update with the build 36.1.A.0.182  in comparison to the previous build number: 36.1.A.0.179.

In case you are wondering, Sony has already started rolling out the update over-the-air (once again) and you should receive the update notification shortly. You can always check for the update manually by heading to Settings > About phone > Software updates.

ZTE Axon 7 now receiving Android 7.0 Nougat update in Spain

ZTE, months after rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update to some of the European countries is finally adding Spain to that list.

The company announced on Twitter yesterday that it has finally released the Android Nougat update for the ZTE Axon 7 handsets in Spain.

With the update installed, users should be able to use many of the new features that Android Nougat brings along with it.

For those who are wondering, some of the major new features include the multi-window split-screen mode, revamped notification shade, updated Settings menu and the improved Doze mode to get you some extra battery life.

The Nougat update should hit the Axon 7 users in Spain as we speak since the company had already rolled out the update OTA.

Meanwhile, you would want to back up your personal data in case things go wrong while installing the update. Also, charge the device before installing the update. Try to maintain at least 50% charge on your device before beginning the process.

Google Pixel and Nexus devices get July security update

A new update is rolling out for Google Pixel and Nexus devices which will install the latest i.e. July security patch on the devices.

The Google devices that will be receiving the July security patch are Pixel XL, Pixel, Pixel C, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus Player, Nexus 6, and Nexus 9.

Only the users who are on Android 7.1.2 Nougat will receive the update. If you are running the Android O developer preview, you won’t receive the OTA update unless you downgrade.

As per Google, July security patch resolves 43 issues in the security patch dated 2017-07-01 and 96 in the 2017-07-05 one. Unlike June update that fixed several big issues in the Pixel and Pixel XL, July update primarily focuses on the security fixes.

As is the case with any security patch, the update takes care of various security vulnerabilities. You can also expect minor performance improvements from the update.

It is advisable to connect to a good Wi-Fi network before downloading the update and keep your handset charged as high as 50 percent.

If you haven’t received the update yet, you can check for it manually via the device settings. Go to Settings – About – Software updates.

OnePlus 5 receiving Oxygen OS 4.5.5 update, improves WiFi connectivity

The recently launched flagship phone OnePlus 5 is receiving a new software update. This is the third update being rolled by the Chinese smartphone manufacturer to the less than a month old OnePlus 5.

The update comes in as software version Oxygen OS 4.5.5 update and brings with it a couple of improvements. Weighing at 59MB, the new update improves WiFi connectivity. It also enhances video recording capability of OnePlus 5 which in turn optimizes battery performance.

Other features brought in by the update include improvements for voice calling. The vibration intensity when receiving calls has been decreased. The update also brings along with it a bunch of optimizations alongside a few bug fixes which include fix for certain apps not able to work under IPv6 network settings.

Sprint Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge now receiving June security update

Sprint Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge units are receiving a new software update. The update installs June security patch and is being rolled out over the air as we speak.

The Galaxy S7 units are receiving the update as build number G930PVPU4BQF3 while software update with build number G935PVPU4BQF3 is hitting Galaxy S7 Edge devices.

The file size of the update is 299MB and hence includes some other features besides the monthly security patch. It improves the stability of your device and fixes regular bugs. It also further improves the performance of your device.

The OTA update may take a while to reach your Galaxy device. Instead of waiting, you can check for it manually by heading to Settings > About device > System update. Before installing the update ensure that your smartphone is at least 50 percent charged and connected to a WiFi network.

Verizon HTC 10 receives new update to version 2.41.605.20

HTC 10 units on Verizon network are up for a new software update. The update arrives as software version 2.41.605.20 and is being pushed over the air.

Although a minor one, the update is highly recommended as it gives you the most up to date Android security patches on your device. In all probability, this update should also include bug fixes and system improvements.

To be able to download the update, you need to be on a software version 2.41.605.18. As is the norm with OTA updates, it may take a while to reach your HTC 10 unit. Alternately, you can check for it manually by going to Settings > About device > System updates.

However, before going for the download button, ensure that your handset is fully charged and connected to a WiFi network. This will ensure seamless installation of the update on your Verizon HTC 10 device.

Galaxy J7 Max, J5 Metal and J3 (US Cellular) receive June security update

Three Samsung Galaxy smartphone units have started receiving a new software update. The firmware, which is being rolled over the air, installs June security patch on Galaxy J7 Max and J5 Metal as well as on US Cellular Galaxy J3.

Galaxy J7 Max and Galaxy J5 Metal are receiving the update as build number G615FXXU1AQF4 and J510MNVJU2AQF2 respectively. On the other hand, the update is hitting US Cellular Galaxy J3 units as build number J320R4TYS2AQF1.

The monthly security patch update also includes system improvements and regular bug fixes. Although a minor and regular update, it is highly recommended as it enhances the security of your device.

It may take a while to reach your device, if you haven’t received it yet. Alternately, you can check for it by paying a visit to Settings > About device > System update. Galaxy A5 (2016) now receiving Nougat update in Netherlands

Samsung is finally rolling out the Android Nougat update to the unbranded Galaxy A5 (2016) handsets in Netherlands. There’s currently no word on when the T-Mobile or Vodafone (aka branded) phones will receive the update.

In case you are wondering, an unbranded handset is the one that is not purchased either from T-Mobile or Vodafone but from a different provider.

If you own an unbranded Galaxy A5 (2016), you should see the update notification pop up anytime on your phone. To check for the update manually, however, you can visit Settings > About device > Software updates on your device.

The update is arriving with the build number A510FXXU4CQE9 and installs the Android 7.0 Nougat on your phone alongside the May security patch.

With the update installed on your Galaxy A5 (2016), you should be able to use all the Nougat features including split-screen mode, improved Doze mode, and the like.

In addition, the update also brings some aesthetic changes to the phone as well. Samsung’s interface has received a much-needed facelift along with the icons and the notification shade has also been revamped.

Microsoft’s Bing Search app gets all-new look and features with today’s massive update

Microsoft has released a new update to its Bing Search app on Android adding a bunch of new features.

Firstly, the search app has received a complete overhaul of sorts in terms of aesthetics. It now looks more simplified and easier to use with better colors all around.

The Bing Search app will now offer clear and rich results to your queries, be it reviews surrounding restaurants or music, and the like.

You can also search for animated gifs on Bing Search. What’s more, you can discover the trending gifs and easily save them. Also, with the update installed, you get quick access to images, videos, and other search results.

Then there’s the improved customizability option. You can now customize font style, size, and background for a better reading experience on your device.

And finally, there are a good number of bug fixes, performance and speed improvements which should have a positive impact on the overall experience.

AT&T Galaxy S7 update rolling out with bug fixes, stability improvements and June security patch

After T-Mobile and Sprint, it is now time for the AT&T variant of Galaxy S7 units to start receiving a new software update which installs the June security patch. The update is being rolled out over the air.

Arriving as build number G930AUCU4BQF3, the update also includes bug fixes and stability improvements. In addition, fixes for a few other issues are also bundled with the update which includes calendar fixes, Samsung Knox fixes and Messaging fixes. The update also brings improvements for video calling feature.

Although a regular monthly update, it is highly recommended as it improves the stability and security of your device. The significance of the update is evident from the large file size of 257-324MB which means that it does include important features.

As is the norm with OTA updates, it may take a while to appear on your AT&T Galaxy S7 phone. Alternately, you can check manually by heading to Settings > About device > System updates. T-Mobile LG G3 gets OTA update with bug fixes and June security patch

T-Mobile LG G3

T-Mobile is rolling out a new software update to the LG G3 which brings along with it a bunch of bug fixes among other things.

The update weighs around 132MB and is arriving with the build D85130g. It installs the monthly Google security patch (June) on the handset alongside fixing some bugs.

Speaking of which, the 2G/3G data roaming issue has now been resolved. LG app also receives a fix. Besides, the update contains a bunch of software and stability improvements.

Since the updates is small in size, you can download it over cellar data. But make sure you have a strong signal reception before hitting the download button.

Alternatively, you can download the update over a Wi-Fi network which will save you from unnecessary wastage of data as well.

The update has already been seeded over-the-air by T-Mobile, so it should hit your device anytime now. If you want to check for it manually, however, go to Settings > About phone > System updates.

Download Moto G4 Play Android 7.1.1 update soak test build [OTA zip]

Moto-G4-Play-LOSMotorola recently started the Android 7.1.1 update soak test for the Moto G4 Play, and fortunately for us, the soak test OTA update zip is now available for download for anyone to flash/install Android 7.1.1 on their Moto G4 Play.

The soak test OTA zip requires that you have the MPIS24.241-15.3-16 build (with February security patch) installed on your Moto G4 Play to be able to install the Android 7.1.1 update. However, if in case you have an updated build (with May security patch) installed on your G4 Play, then we don’t suggest you to roll back to February build to install the soak test OTA. It might lead to a hard-bricked device.

That said, you can grab the Moto G4 Play Android 7.1.1 OTA update zip from the download link below and install/flash it like you’d install any other OTA zip file from the recovery. For help installing, following detailed step-by-step installation instructions (also linked below):

T-Mobile Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus update rolling out with June security patch and improved Navigation bar

The T-Mobile variants of Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are up for new software update. The update installs June security patch and bundles some new features.

The update is being pushed as build number G950USQU1AQFJ to T-Mobile Galaxy S8 units while Galaxy S8 Plus devices are receiving the update as build number G955USQU1AQFJ. The update brings security patch for the month of June as well as regular bug fixes and device security enhancement.

In addition, the update introduces a new navigation bar to enable users to ‘see more of the display without navigation concealing it’. This has been made possible by adding icons (these can be fixed or hidden) to the left-hand side of the navigation bar.

The changelog also mentions that the ‘range of available background colors has been changed and, after updating the software, the background color will be set to default color’.

Flyme 6 stable build for Meizu M3s, M2 Note, PRO6 and MX5 now available for download

After over seven months of releasing the first public beta version of Flyme 6, Meizu has finally released the stable version of Flyme 6 OS. The first lucky recipients of the stable build are Meizu M3s, M2 Note, PRO6 and MX5.

The stable Flyme 6 OS version brings significant changes to your device. It fixes a number of issues and bugs. It also improves compatibility of your Meizu phone with third-party apps in addition to enhancing the security of your device.

Other changes brought about by the stable Flyme 6 build are:

  • Improved system power consumption
  • Fixed occasional restart when language was switched to Italian
  • Fixed unexpected quit of Meizu Account
  • Fixed an email issue

Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe update brings improved camera performance and stability fixes

Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe received the Nougat update in March this year. Now Asus is rolling out a new incremental OTA update to the device.

The update doesn’t alter the Android Operating system rather brings stability performances. The update arrives with build number 5.15.44.2494 and should reach your device within a week.

In case, you don’t receive the update, you can check for it manually via the device settings. Go to Settings – About – Software updates.

About the update, it brings improvements in camera performance and stabilizes Bluetooth connections, which otherwise were quite unstable.

Further, the update brings improvements and stability in Asus’s own ZenUI as well. The update includes various other under-the-hood performance improvements as well as other minor system enhancements too.

It is advisable to connect to a good Wi-Fi network before downloading the update and keep your handset charged as high as 50 percent.

Nokia 6 update rolling out with July security patch in China, brings optional support for Google Play Services

Last week, everyone was surprised when Nokia rolled out July security patch for Nokia 6 in Hong Kong and Taiwan even before Google rolled it for Google Pixel devices.

So, basically, Nokia 6 became the first device to get July security patch. Now the July security patch has reached the Chinese variant of Nokia 6.

The update, which arrives with the build number 00CN_3_31A weighs 380MB. As per the official changelog, the update brings July security patch and fixes camera issue in the Arabic language.

As is the case with any security patch, the update takes care of various security vulnerabilities and brings along fixes to existing bugs. You can also expect performance and stability improvements from the update.

However, according to the report by NokiaPowerUser, the update brings along optional support for Google Play Services. For the unaware, Chinese variants of Android smartphones don’t have Google Play Store preinstalled on them. Therefore, once this update is installed, users can download and install the Google Play Store on their handsets.

Please keep in mind, the update itself doesn’t bring the Google Play Store, it just brings support for Google Play Services, which in turn allow you to download and install Google Play Store on your device.

OnePlus 2 update rolling out with OxygenOS 3.6.0, brings June security patch and bug fixes

OnePlus has commenced the roll out of a new incremental update to OnePlus 2 which arrives as OxygenOS 3.6.0. The update installs June security patch and brings a few bug fixes.

The update is being rolled out over the air. The changes brought about the new software are updated Android security patch level to June 1st, 2017. It also updates the timezone to GMT+3 in Turkey.

With regards to bug fixes, the update solves the problem of OnePlus 2 not being able to automatically register on 4G networks. In India, the update brings fixes to VoLTE issues.

The update is Marshmallow based and will reach your device in a few days with a small percentage of users receiving the update today itself. A broader roll out will begin in a few days. In case you are too impatient to wait that long, you have an alternate option. Go to Settings > About device > System update to check for new OxygenOS 3.6.0 manually.

Notably, last month OnePlus officially confirmed that  it won’t be rolling out the Nougat update to the OnePlus 2. As such, the users of this device will have to remain content with the monthly security patch updates.

Sony Xperia X gets July 2017 security patch, build 34.3.A.0.206

Sony is now rolling out the July 2017 security patch to the Xperia X handset. The update is arriving with the software version 34.3.A.0.206 which is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. 

Do, however, make a note that the update is hitting only the single-SIM Xperia X (F5121) variant currently. The dual-SIM variant (F5122) should receive the update very soon.

As far as the size is concerned, the update weighs around 93MB, so it shouldn’t be a problem to download it over cellular data. Just make sure you are in the strong signal zone or alternatively connect to a Wi-Fi network to download the update.

In typical Sony fashion, there’s no changelog included. If we were to guesstimate, it should bring along with it fixes to the bugs existing in the previous build, especially the ones surrounding Bluetooth.

As is the case with any update, make sure to back up your personal data just in case things go wrong.

Motorola Moto X Style Android Nougat update is rolling out in India

The company had only recently started seeding the Nougat update for Moto X Style handsets in Brazil. And now, Motorola Moto X Style users in India have started receiving the long-overdue Android Nougat update.

Needless to say, you get all the Nougat goodies with the update which include: improved Doze mode, revamped notification shade, and Quick Settings menu. And yeah, the much-hyped split-screen mode.

In addition to the said features, there should be a plethora of optimizations and system improvements which will enhance the overall experience.

The update should also bring along with it the latest security patch to the Moto X Style. There’s no mention of it, though.

As usual, the update is currently being rolled out to the users in a phased manner and all of you may not receive the update at the same time.
